Archive for 2004

The last two weekends of April were a great highlight. I was privileged to be a part of the committee that put together Kyckstart, the annual Katoomba Christian Convention event, attended by nearly 4000 youth.

It was a special joy to lead the Saturday night ‘Kycking to the Core’ event. This two-hour event showcased what God has been doing in the lives of many of the youth groups and young people from throughout Sydney and beyond.

Some of the stories brought us joy. Others brought us sadness. But in all cases we were able to rejoice that through our sufferings God is producing perseverance, character and hope… which does not disappoint us (Romans 5:3-5).

Trinity Grammar students attend one of the 'Nailing God' seminars.

In the days leading up to Easter, 1300 Trinity Grammar School students heard that they were guilty of nailing God.

The annual Easter Mission was run this year by staff and students of Anglican Youthworks College. The theme, ‘Nailing God’, showed how every person alive was guilty of killing Jesus.

The mission included a one-hour seminar, which was repeated for each of the six High School year groups. The seminar included talks from Jodie McNeill, Graham Stanton and Al Stewart, as well as music from Nathan Tasker.

During the hour the students assembled in small groups of around six people, where a Youthworks College student led them in interactive discussion about the material presented.

In addition, the Youthworks College students taught many of the Christian Studies classes, as well as spending time in informal discussions during lunch time.

During the weekend of 26-28 March, I spoke at the Central Coast Youth Conference. The camp, held at Mangrove Mountain Retreat, was organised by representatives of a number of Anglican churches from around the Central Coast.

This inaugural event was attended by high school aged students from many churches in the area, providing a great opportunity to build friendships with other Christian youth in the region.

I gave a series of six talks on Galatians entitled “Why be a Christian? The talks had the following titles:

1. Only Jesus rescues us (Chapter 1)
2. Only Jesus ignores religion (Chapter 2)
3. Only Jesus saves by faith (Chapter 3)
4. Only Jesus sets us free (Chapter 4)
5. Only Jesus shows us true love (Chapter 5)
6. Only Jesus makes us new (Chapter 6).

In addition, I also conducted a training session on youth ministry for youth leaders and ministers from the Central Coast.

Our new house at Mortdale

Just when we got comfortable, it’s time to uproot! On Tuesday the 13th of April we are moving to an almost brand new duplex in Mortdale.

Our new address will be 11a Broughton Street, Mortdale 2223. We have been advised that we can expect to keep our same home phone number.

Jemimah and Liana modelling their fairy outfits at the party.

Despite projected temperatures in the high 30s, Jemimah’s party was a success. Her twelve friends from church and school had a great time eating, playing and swimming in the new inflatable pool.

Fortunately an early southerly wind change dropped the temperature from the mid 30’s to a much more respectable 25C.

The party had a ‘dress up’ theme, yet the majority of guests predictably wore pink fairy outfits. The games included favourites such as the egg and spoon race, pass the parcel, Mintie hunt, and pin the tail on the horse.

This was followed by an informal splash in the new pool, kindly purchased at short notice by my mum, and lovingly inflated by the adults present.
